2018年4月，效力于凯尔特人的欧文饱受膝盖伤势困扰，欧文决定接受手术，这次手术的目的是为了移除欧文左膝盖髌骨内植入的两个钢钉。那两个钢钉正是欧文在2015年总决赛G1受伤后的手术中被植入到左膝盖髌骨的，而医生发现这两个钢钉让欧文的左膝盖产生了炎症，这次手术最终也导致了欧文赛季报销。
